Description: Surface fishing can be one of the most exciting ways to fish. I think it is why so many game anglers like dry fly fishing. There is a magical moment when the fish lips appear and a quick swirl then strike !
Rigs: In Stillwaters say 1.7mt deep a free running bomb anchors the rig allowing the floater to remain static on the surface. Backwind until your hook bait appears. A different colour hook bait is useful to identify your hook bait. In deeper waters 2mt+ a controller float is used more to help you cast further than for bite indication. Good non commercial baits are bread crust and dog biscuits.
On Rivers just use a free running crust and let the flow take the crust down under some features where the wary big fish lie. There are a number of commercial floating baits which will also work with some success depending on venue.
Prebait Tip: Make sure to soak the dog biscuits first.!!
