Pole float come in various sizes and shapes and like spinners and lures most are there to catch the angler rather than functionality. The basic shapes would be pear shaped for stillwaters and inverted pear shaped or round for holding back against the current in moving water. Other shapes are dibbers for fishing on the bottom where you want the tip of the float almost flush with the surface to see sensitive bite.
