Default Selecting the bigger Roach

Im yet to catch that magical two pound roach my biggest is about 1lb 12oz from the river culm in devon, I often fish maggots in the day time on a float and then swith over to bread on the tip as it gets darker, can anyone give me some tips on where in the river i could find a bigger roach and what baits are best for selecting them.

I agree Fiachra, that often works but i still cant find a foolproof method! Have fished all day on the same bait and the bigger roach appear and then disappear just as quick, without any apparent changes in tide/flow/light/bait?
Its one of lifes mysterys!!

Thumbs up

I agree castors do produce big roach, but I also think that hemp and tiers are great for selecting big roach especially when the tempeture has dropped. Single hemp on hook and keep spraying the hemp, only small bits maybe a dozen every cast over a bed of hemp always produce the bigger roach and rudd for me when its a bit colder.

You already have great advice from the learned/experienced anglers on the site, but i would also give a piece of luncheon meat (punched or cubed) a try. good luck.
