Fished the Barrow at Carlow this weekend and had loads of dace. Actually got fed up of them after a while. What I did notice was that they are now crossing with the roach. I caught a fish that looked like a roach in shape but had a rainbow kind of finish and soft skin rather than scales.

Largest I'd say from 30 dace was about 8 Oz.

fly fishing for dace can be fun I read somewhere but never tried it myself

Thumbs up Dace on the river Nore

You should try Inistioge on the river Nore there are loads of good Dace there at the boat slip but as you say very large dace are very hard to come by Id say feb or early march when they are about to spawn would be the best time to catch a speciemen.

hi fiachra have fished the barrow a few times at st mullins had a few dace again while fishing for roach etc nice little fish /great pike bait
