| The Royal Canal can be found flowing from Dublin into Athlone. Fishing can be especially good in the harbour areas. Ballinea Bridge to the Kilucan area is generally a good stretch as is Lucan and Leixlip. |

| From Dublin you can find long stretches of the canal which are shallow, weedy and overgrown but contain nice Tench roach and bream. Between Lucan and Leixlip there is some excellent fishing along a well looked after and stocked match stretch. I have had some excellent tench and bream with the a good mixed bag of roach and hybrids on this stretch. Keep your eyes peeled for the coloured water and bubbles giving away the fishes location. In Maynooth Harbour some Carp are caught. At Cloncurry bridge to Ferns Lock 17, fishing is for catches of Roach, Rudd, Hybrids, Tench, Perch, Pike and Eel.Fishing here is for good catches of Roach, Roach/Bream Hybrids, Perch, Pike, Tench & Eels between locks 1-7 and also lock 12 although it is weedy at times but contains some Tench. |
